WHAT IS A VEGETABLE SUBSCRIPTION?
Strike Farms’ 20-WEEK VEGETABLE SUBSCRIPTION (sometimes called a CSA) is the best way to get healthy, certified organic produce (allowing you to enjoy the fresh taste of Montana at every meal) while also helping the farm itself stay healthy year-round, not just during the peak growing season. With our Standard Box, you’ll receive weekly boxes of an assortment of seasonal veggies and canned goods fresh from our certified organic farm. Have questions? Email [email protected].
HOW DOES A SUBSCRIPTION WORK?
1. PAY for your subscription in advance.
2. PICK UP your weekly box of veggies (or share), or choose to shop à la carte style at Farmers’ Markets through our “market bucks” option.
3. ENJOY locally grown, ultra-fresh produce or flowers all season long!
WHAT IF I JUST WANT TO BUY PRODUCE FROM YOU AS NEEDED?
We’ve got you covered. Our unique MARKET BUCKS program (available in $500 OR $250 increments) is like having a tab at your favorite bar—but much healthier. You shop at Farmers’ Markets and we simply deduct your purchase from your subscription total each week. Purchases are discounted by 10%, meaning that a $500 purchase gets you $550 worth of produce.
HOW DO I JOIN?
IS YOUR FARM ORGANIC?
We are proud to be certified organic! Starting in the 2015 season we became officially certified organic through the Montana Department of Agriculture. Although we have followed organic standards from the beginning, we wanted to show the world our commitment to farming our ground in a way that not only sustains its fertility, but also improves it over time. You can read more about our farm here.
IS THERE A SIGN UP DEADLINE?
There isn’t a deadline, but we offer a limited number of subscriptions, so it is possible for them to sell out.
WHEN DOES YOUR SEASON START?
The Summer Vegetable Subscription runs June 13 to October 24th
The Winter Vegetable Subscription runs from October 31 to January 30 you can sign up for your winter veggies starting in late summer/early fall.
ARE THERE DIFFERENT LEVELS OR TYPES OF VEGETABLE SUBSCRIPTION?
The best way to get your veggies is straight from the source, so we offer a variety of subscription and à la carte options. Check out our Products page to find out more about our offerings.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO SEE IN MY BOX EACH WEEK?
You’ll get weekly boxes of an assortment of seasonal veggies and canned goods, like pickled beets, dilly beans, dill pickles, and curried carrots. Each share has a mix of 7-10 items. Your cost is $25 per week, but for paying up front you receive $28.50 worth of produce each week. An example of a mid-July share would be:
- 1 BUTTERHEAD LETTUCE
- 1 BAG BABY ARUGULA
- 1 BUNCH CURLY KALE
- 1 BUNCH GREEN ONIONS
- 1 BUNCH CARROTS
- 1 BUNCH BEETS
- 1 PINT CHERRY TOMATOES
- 2 LARGE ZUCCHINIS
- 1 BUNCH CILANTRO
- 1 JAR OF DILLY BEANS
You can also visit our blog for a full description of what was in each share last season.
HOW MANY PEOPLE DOES A STANDARD SHARE FEED?
A share provides all the vegetables needed for a family of 4 or 1-2 avid veggie eaters. This assumes that you cook dinner and breakfast at home several days a week. If you don’t cook very often and just want carrots and cherry tomatoes to snack on we would recommend getting the Market Bucks option so that you can make smaller weekly purchases.
CAN I SHARE MY BOX?
For members who may feel you would like to split a box, we welcome you to initiate this with friends, family or neighbors. We leave this responsibility to you and your box mates: how you split the produce is your decision. Sharing a box requires extra care that your group picks up only one box each week. Please coordinate this amongst yourselves in advance. A great option is to alternate weeks that you pick up a share, so you don’t have to decide how to split the veggies each week!
CAN I SELECT WHICH ITEMS I WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE?
Strike Farms currently does not offer this option for the standard subscription. With our subscription you will receive a weekly box packed with a mix of seasonal vegetables that are picked at their peak ripeness. Every member receives the same box. However, as the season progresses members will have the option to shop online for any extra veggies we have from week to week. So, for example, if we have an extra 100 lbs of Roma tomatoes you will be able to login into your member account and purchase some of those tomatoes.
If you like coming to the farmers’ markets then the Market Bucks option is the way to go, because you can pick whatever items you want, and you get a 10% discount for your up front payment.
WHAT IF I DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE A VEGETABLE OR AM NOT A BIG COOK?
We send out a weekly newsletter with recipe ideas to help you figure out what to do with your veggies.
WHERE DO I PICK UP?
When you sign up you will have several pickup options available. Please choose one and commit to picking up at the same place all season, so that we know how many boxes to send to each pick up location. For the Summer 2017 Share we will have pick up options in:
