Week 1- Sun, Strawberries, and Shares
Can you believe it? It's finally June, so that means your long awaited vegetable share is on it's way! Thank you for your patience while we worked hard to cultivate some delicious organic produce for you.
How to pick up your share:
First things first. Here are the details for how to pick up your vegetables. There's some construction going on right in front of the farm right now so I've included some detour info:
If you signed up for a Market Share or Market Pick-up come visit us at Bogert Park this Tuesday from 3:30-8:00 to pick up your box or shop at the market.

Shares are available for pick up Tuesday afternoons and Wednesday mornings. Take the first driveway from the West! We lease our land from the wonderful Heriza family and they graciously let us use one of their driveways. If you're driving through the car port you're using the wrong driveway.
There is a bunch of construction right in front of the farm on Stucky right now so unfortunately you'll have to take a detour to get there. We've been told it will only be a few weeks, keeping our fingers crossed. In the mean time here is a map with detour options:
From Huffine take Cottonwood to Stucky, turn east at the 4 way stop and go through the road blocks. Local traffic is allowed.
Take South 19th to Patterson Rd. Take a right onto Patterson Rd and then another right onto Fowler about 1/4 in. Fowler connects to Stucky. There will be a road block on your right, you can drive through it and enter the farm driveway.
Once you get to the farm shares will be located inside the BIG RED SHED. There are two doors, an outer door and and inner door. You want to go all the way through that inner door. That's where the walk-in cooler is that contains your veggies. Your share will be on the LEFT side of the cooler when you walk in. The handles to the doors TURN LEFT AND RIGHT to open and close. Close them securely please. BRING A SHOPPING BAG or another box to transfer your produce into. When you're done BREAK DOWN YOUR BOX and place it in the pile outside of the walk-in cooler. That was a lot of information. I promise it's not as complicated as it seems. I also promise that our weekly news will not be this long ever again.
Week one is a product of early season bounty, season extension magic and a great partnership with Roots Kitchen and Cannery. Here's what you can look forward to enjoying:

Each week this summer we'll send out a list of what is included in the share along with some recipes and tips on how to enjoy the bounty. At lunch today one of our employees, Josh, told me that he finally tried a "green smoothie." You should too! It's a great way to get some vitamins and minerals first thing in the morning. Here's one of my favorite ways to make one:
Spring Greens Smoothie!
4-6 oz of yogurt or kefir (plain, vanilla, fruity the sky is the limit)
1 cup (packed) of greens such as spinach or kale
1/2 cup of strawberries
1/2 banana (or any other frozen fruit you have around)
1 tsp honey
1 tbsp flax meal
1/4 c water
Blend it all up in a blender and serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 2 days.
Some other fun news this past week. Nature has been keeping us on our toes this season with some interesting weather. As we were finishing up planting our summer crops a microburst swept through the farm and took 600 ft of row cover with it! It was hauntingly beautiful, and we're just glad no one got seriously injured
