Good evening veggie share friends! Here's what we have for you this week:

This week's share includes:
Heirloom tomatoes
Salad Turnips
Green Cabbage
Baby Bok Choy Parsley
Baby Kale
Slicing Cucumbers
Green Beans

As I sit here watching the olympics eating tomato sandwiches (and by that I mean pizza) I can't help but think about what finely tuned human beings all of these athletes are. They must have really awesome vegetable shares. How else could they be such amazing athletes? They probably don't eat any mayonaise either, which is a shame because it is the foundation of a really quality tomato sandwich. That being said here's how I make a real tomato sandwich (not pizza) with our heirloom tomatoes: 

You'll need:
1) Some bread. I like a Foccacia roll because they're nice and porous.
2) Mayo. Get the real stuff or make your own. If you've got an immersion blender it's a snap.
3) Ripe Heirloom tomatoes
4) Fresh basil and garlic or pesto. 

Slice the bread. Toast the bread. Coat it in mayo. If you're using pesto, mix the pesto with the mayo and spread it liberally all over the bread. If you're using fresh garlic and basil chop them up and sprinkle all over the bread. Slice up the tomatoes nice and thin, then layer them on top of the mayo, garlic, and basil. Sprinkle a little salt on top and voila! You've got a delightful treat. For an awesome breakfast, add a fried egg!

WINTER SHARES 

They'll be for sale from now until it starts on October 25th. We'll even prorate it for you if you sign up late. Tell you're friends, tell your family. It's the best way to eat locally year round! Again shares will: 

  • Run from October 25th - January 24th
  • Cost: $400
  • Be at Sola Cafe- once we have more sign-ups i'll send a poll around for specific pick up times

You can look forward to eating delicious German Butterball potatoes and many, many more root crops well into the cold winter months. 

Totatoes are shaping up nicely! Looking forward to a huge crop this year. 

CHICKENS

There are chickens left! They are getting fatter by the day and can't wait to be on your dinner plate. Shoot me an email to order your chickens ASAP.

We're green bean crazy right now. Hope you enjoy the extra big bag of beans in your share this week. We'll also have plenty of pickled dilly beans to share with you all winter long in our Winter Vegetable Share.

FARMERS' MARKET

This week we'll be bringing you all of the vegetables: baby kale, lettuce mix, arugula, baby bok choy, bunched kale, swiss chard, lacinato kale, salad turnips, red beets, golden beets, carrots, green cabbage, yellow squash, zucchini, green beans, heirloom tomatoes, red slicing tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, roma tomatoes, asian eggplants, italian eggplants, slicing cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, bell peppers and spicy peppers...I'm sure that I'm missing something but we've got it all. 

We'll also have plenty of flowers to go around so come pick up a bouquet for your favorite person tomorrow night at Bogert Park!
